Le Château was founded
by Herschel H. Segal in 1959.
The original store location in downtown Montreal offered groundbreaking
men's wear. The concept was successful and in 1962 a women's collection
was added.
From the beginning Le Château's fashion captured a generation
of changes and in the 60s the retailer made its name channeling London's
street style to the sidewalks of Canada.
For the next twenty years Le Château concentrated on establishing
its brand, and continued to produce new trends that represented key
looks of the 60s, 70s and 80s.
After an initial public offering on December 3, 1983, the company's
presence continued to grow across Canada throughout the 80s and the
90s.
Today Le Château is a leading Canadian retailer offering fashion-forward
apparel, accessories and footwear to style-conscious women and men.
The company has more than 3000 employees and produces over 1.5 million
high-quality garments annually in its own production facilities in
Canada.
Le Château's brand name clothing is designed by a team of
in-house designers and produced both locally and internationally within
the company's vertically integrated operations.
Recently the company has broadened its customer base with a closer
eye on lifestyle fashion, expanded sizing across the collections and
sourcing of higher quality fabrics and materials.
Le Château merchandise is sold exclusively through more than 200 Canadian signature stores,
including four retail locations in the New York City area. |
