SPRING ACCESSORIES MAKE A STATEMENT
March 5, 2009

Accessories for S09 are bold and beautiful. Jewellery this spring is all about statement pieces, adding a splash of colour to your outfit or tying a colour story all together with the perfect complementing items to complete the overall look. Read on for details on how to fine-tune your accessory choices to make the most of spring’s hottest trends.

Richly-Coloured Accessories: This season it’s all about accenting. Spring brings colour to our lives; matching various accessories in the same rich hue can complete an outfit. Colours such as purples, oranges, blues, and tobacco brown are key hues for spring.

Chunky/Statement Items: Chunky necklaces, bangles and bracelets are hot this spring because they help spice up a simple white t-shirt and jeans ensemble or add that special something to a little black dress. What’s great about this style is that one statement piece is enough to complete your look. Try and avoid over-doing it; for example, do not wear a huge embellished necklace with tons of chunky bangles. This will not only take away from the necklace but also make your outfit looked cluttered.

Fringe: The fringe look is still in for spring on bags, shoes, and vests.

Bows: This sweet little style is another hot look for spring. Bows are not only being seen in hair, on clutches, but try tying one around your neck with a collared button up silk shirt!

Chains: Chains are in and a must-wear look for that rocker-chic edge you are looking for. For spring, they are seen with a lot of layering, and not only with other chains but other types of necklaces as well. Try layering chains with different kinds of stone necklaces and faux diamonds for a glam/rock look!

Hair Accessories: Over the last few seasons, we have seen headbands come back in a big way, moving away from the classic preppy private school look into more delicate and feminine headpieces. Spring 2009 sees this trend developing with more sophistication and glamour, resembling a polished 1920’s Audrey Hepburn, but with a more fashion forward edginess.

Scarves: The scarf is still a key spring fashion accessory; however, all wool scarves should be put into major hibernation. Winter scarves should be replaced with lightweight scarves in bright colours and fun, sexy prints that help accent any basic outfit.

Sunglasses: Ladies, don’t worry. Oversized sunglasses are still very much the trend for spring/summer 2009. Handbag help: The relaxed hobo rejoices as super-structured bags are out, and the slouchier your hobo bag is, the better.

Clutch one: The clutch is small and compact but boasts a big fashion bang - an easy accessory for spring.
